Policies Relating to Dues, Fees, Tuition and Special Fees
Schedule of Dues and Fees:
The schedule of dues and fees is set by the membership at the annual meeting, when acting on budget recommendations from the Board of Directors.
Billing:
The Temple fiscal year runs from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. Members of record as of 1 July 2011 are obligated to pay their full annual dues, building fund and security fee even if they resign their membership before 30 June 2012. NOTE: If you join between 1 July and 30 September, you are obligated to pay for the entire year, including the entire first quarter. If you join between 1 October and 30 June, you are obligated to pay the fees for the quarter in which you join, plus the rest of the membership year. As a convenience for our members, members have the option of being billed on a Quarterly, Monthly or Annual basis. (L’dor V’dor members are billed on an annual basis only.) For members electing the Quarterly option, one-fourth of their total annual obligation is billed at the beginning of each calendar quarter, i.e., on or about 1 July, 1 October, 1 January, and 1 April. Members choosing the Monthly option will be billed on the first of each month. The Annual option is billed on or about 1 July. Again, note that while dues and fees may be billed monthly, quarterly, or even annually, at the member’s option, the total annual amount represents the member’s obligation to Temple B’nai Shalom for that membership year and must be paid in full.
Payment is due upon receipt of the bill. Payments are considered overdue 31 days after the invoice date. Members may prepay dues and fees at any time.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah fees and Confirmation fees are billed six (6) months before the event, and must be paid in full no later than 90 days prior to the event. Failure to pay may cause cancellation of the event.
Religious School fees must be paid in full when children are registered.
Good Standing:
To remain in Good Standing, members must be current in payment of dues and fees. This means that the current quarter’s dues and fees must be paid no later than 60 days after the invoice date.
Members who are not current in payment of dues and fees are not in Good Standing and will not receive Rabbinical Services or High Holy Day tickets, cannot enroll or retain children in Religious School, and cannot vote at the Annual Meeting or at any Special Meetings. In extreme cases, the Board may, at its option, decide to terminate membership for members substantially in arrears.
Members who are unable to remain current in paying their dues and building fund should contact the Treasurer to discuss the situation. Alternate arrangements may be possible.
Tax Deductions:
Members should consult their tax advisors regarding deductibility of dues and fees. A statement of all payments made to the Temple is mailed to members at calendar year-end.
