Tonight begins the next chapter in our congregation’s musical history. Tonight we are very excited to welcome Cantor Lindsay Kanter to Temple B’nai Shalom. Cantor Lindsay, as she likes to be known, will be with us this year for the High Holy Days and for one Shabbat each month.
Cantor Lindsay comes to us with a wealth of experience. She recently concluded eight years as the Cantor of Temple Emanuel in Kensington, MD. During cantorial school, she served as Cantorial Intern at Central Synagogue in New York City, Temple Israel in Staten Island, and Congregation Ohel Avraham in Haifa. She was a Chaplain Intern at Mount Sinai-Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. She is also an award-winning composer of Jewish music.
Cantor Lindsay leads worship with joyful sincerity, bringing melodies familiar and new to enhance our prayer. She has a deep passion for, and knowledge of, the breadth of Jewish music though the ages. Music has such an important impact on our worship experience. It helps shape our prayer, giving voice to our innermost thoughts and feelings. Whether singing together or listening peacefully, our spiritual sensitivity is heightened by music. I know that Cantor Lindsay will enrich our worship in so many meaningful ways.
I have truly enjoyed planning our upcoming High Holy Day services and tonight’s Shabbat service with her and look forward to a wonderful year ahead. I know she is looking forward to meeting our community and, particularly, to working with our choir. Please join me in welcoming Cantor Lindsay, her husband David, and their children, Zoheret and Myer, to TBS tonight!
