Letter From Our New Interim Rabbi

Dear Members of Temple B’nai Shalom,

It is an honor for me to join you as the Interim Senior Rabbi.  Temple B’nai Shalom is an outstanding congregation.  I was deeply moved by my visit in the spring.  The vitality of services, warmth of relationships, dedication to caring, the many active groups at the synagogue, Confirmation, B’nai Mitzvah program, religious school, social action programs, and commitment to Jewish learning are amazing.

Rabbi Perlin is an extraordinary rabbi!  She is committed to each member of the temple, high standards in every aspect of synagogue life, the strength of the Jewish community, and justice for our world.  I admire her spirit and the love she shares with all of you.

This is a time of transition.  I have spoken with Rabbi Perlin and Rabbi Rappaport to learn about the values of Temple B’nai Shalom and the ways they care for you.  Through the years, I have seen many rabbis and teachers retire or move on to other positions so I can identify with the feelings of congregants at this moment.  I am available to talk with you and help in any way I can.  I look forward to working with Rabbi Rappaport to serve you.

During the past months, Neil Seiden, David Cherington, Rabbi Rappaport, synagogue leaders and I have met regularly via video calls to beginning the planning process.  We have spoken about the ideals of the congregation and plans for the transition.

Please call me if I can be of help to you, if you have a family member with a special need, if you know of a congregant who I should contact, or if you would like to arrange a time to chat.  Getting to know the members of the temple and pastoral care are my highest priorities.

The Torah offers a wonderful insight for Jewish life.  It says, “Serve the Eternal with joy, come before the One with rejoicing.”  May we have this joy as we affirm the traditions of Temple B’nai Shalom, celebrate life, and shape dreams for the future.
