Prayer for Women of the Wall

During this week when they were threatened with arrest if they said Kaddish at the Wall

by Rahel Sharon Jaskow, adapted for TBS by Rabbi Perlin

May it be Your will, our God and God of our mothers and fathers, to bless the prayer group, Women of the Wall, and all who pray with them and in support of them: their families and friends, together with all the women and girls of your people Israel, and all the courageous and righteous men who support them, in Israel and around the world. Strengthen the women who want to pray to You at this holy site, as women have prayed for millennia. Direct their hearts to serve You in truth, reverence, and love. May they be able to pray in safety in a democratic and free land of Israel.

May their prayer be desirable and acceptable to You like the prayers of our holy mothers, Sarah, Rebeccah, Leah, and Rachel.

May their songs ascend to You, like the songs of Miriam the Prophetess.

May no woman or girl be silenced ever again among Your people Israel, or in all the world.

God of justice, help us to work faithfully for a day when there is justice for women, as well as men, at the Wall, for the sanctification of Your name and the repair of Your world, as it is written: “Zion will hear and be glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice.” Psalm 97:8  Amen.
