Welcome to Miles L. Roger, Director of Education

Miles L. Roger, RJE is Temple B’nai Shalom’s Director of Education.  Miles is a professional educator who brings his extensive experience, skills and knowledge to Temple B’nai Shalom’s Religious School and Adult Education programs.

Originally from Indiana, Miles comes to Temple B’nai Shalom from Washington Hebrew Congregation in D.C. where he was the Assistant Director of Religious Education.  Washington Hebrew Congregation has an 800-student religious school; Miles twice filled-in for the Director during extended absences.  He has more than eleven years experience as a professional Jewish educator and, in addition, he was an adviser for the Indianapolis Federation of Temple Youth for five years.  Miles holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business, Bloomington, Indiana, and a Master of Arts in Jewish Education from Jewish Theological Seminary, Davidson School of Jewish Education, New York, New York.  He is also a certified Reform Jewish Educator (RJE), a certification granted by the Association of Reform Jewish Educators (ARJE), an accomplishment that distinguishes its holders among Jewish educators as having met a high standard of education, experience and competency.  He serves as a member of the ARJE Board.

The Adult Education – L.I.F.E. (Learning is for Everyone) – programs are designed to support one of the core values of Temple B’nai Shalom: to provide opportunities for our members to explore and engage Judaism through lifelong learning. We have adopted the name L.I.F.E. to reaffirm our strong and ongoing commitment to serve the needs of our entire membership with lifelong opportunities for learning and growth.  The programs are open for all adult members of the congregation and include study sessions with the rabbis and lay leaders through a variety of lenses,  including study of Torah and Talmud, exploration of other Jewish texts, and discussing what Jewish philosophers might have to say on the subject. No previous Jewish knowledge is required. Programs are offered at different times during the week including after Friday night services.

Each year, we select a L.I.F.E. program theme and provide a variety of opportunities throughout the year to explore it.  Please click HERE to see our 2021/22 L.I.F.E. brochure.

In addition, we offer Adult Hebrew classes for those interested in improving their skills with prayer and/or interested in an Adult B’nai Mitzvah.
