Adult Education
The Adult Education programs are designed to support one of the core values of Temple B'nai Shalom by providing the opportunity for adults to continue their Jewish studies. The programs are open for all adult members of the congregation. No previous Jewish knowledge is required.
Each year the committee picks a theme and provides a variety of programs using the theme. Previous themes have included a discussion of death and dying, the Jewish "journey" through Israel and the American Jewish experience.
The programs include study sessions with the Rabbis and lay leaders and look at the topic in various ways by:
- studying of Torah and Talmud,
- using other Jewish texts,
- studying what Jewish philosophers might have to say on the subject.
Programs are offered at different times during the week including after Friday night services.
In addition, we offer Adult Hebrew classes and for those interested in improving their skills with prayer and/or interested in an Adult B'nai Mitzvah.
Every few years, the Rabbis teach additional, introductory classes about Judaism, giving an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to increase their knowledge of the religion. These include a Taste of Judaism (which we last ran in March of 2011), in three sessions, for people without any previous knowledge of Judaism. The second is a 16-week Introduction to Judaism class, which will begin this June. This, too, is offered to anyone in the community who is interested in studying Judaism, but Temple members receive a substantial discount in price.
Please call the Temple if you are interested in this program.
